What Does It Mean to 'Eat Well'?

To us, Eat Well is a mantra that's greater than the sum of its parts. If you're this far into the rabbit hole, we owe it to you to explain what we mean, why we're doing the things we say, and how we're going to make it happen. If we were a more corporate business, we'd call it a mission statement. In real terms though, it's bigger than that. A mission statement is something you aim for and words to live by. Eating well is who we are. And, naturally, this stuff finds its way into the things we do too.

The first and probably most obvious part is this: Eating well demands quality. That's why, in everything we do, everything we create, and in all other aspects of Sublime, we strive for excellence. We love the Great Taste Awards because it helps to keep us accountable to what excellence is. As a baseline, we always use the best ingredients we can find. If, for any reason, the GTAs don't think a star is on the cards, that's a signal for us to look inwards, tinker with the recipe, and make it better.

We also believe that excellence in food is something we have an obligation to talk about. The food industry is a place that's fraught with misinformation, and often the facts (if you can call them that) are biased. For instance, in the UK, we're taught that fat = bad. But good fats are extraordinarily healthy. We avoid sugar in lieu of sweeteners; in fact, while their caloric repercussions are better, sweeteners have been linked to addictive eating, which correlates with obesity. So, there's this side of things.

It's not about saying any one thing is bad and another is good. Fundamentally, we want to make sure that everyone has the knowledge and the awareness to make buying and eating decisions for themselves.

That's the serious stuff out of the way.

For us, more than anything else, we love food for its ability to bring us together. The most memorable meals we've ever had are the ones that we've shared. They're the ones that'll stay with us. And, of course, deliciousness helps. But if, through our comings and goings at Sublime, we can make it easier for people to find the time, inspiration, and know-how to have more of these shared experiences, we think we'd be onto something.

On that front, expect content on hosting, cooking skills and techniques, and so much more.

If you've got any ideas on what 'Eat Well' means to you, let us know. We're all ears.

Thanks for reading.
